This is the first part of a further continuation of the story which started with Blue Diamonds and continued in Black Sapphires. There is also a connection with a ficlet I wrote entitled When the Cherries Bloom.

Baroque Pearls has remained partially-written for nearly ten months and participating in picowrimo, thanks to elmey's recommendation, has finally gotten me to take it up again.

I am very grateful to the moderators and all the other participants of picowrimo for their encouragement and suggestions and to utopiantrunks for listening to my rewrites and patiently explaining the use of italics. All the shortcomings are mine.
